Bulk Trash Pickup in Denton and 5 Nearby North Texas Cities

An old sofa, a dead dryer, or a pile of trimmed limbs looks like an easy curbside job until the truck drives past it. Bulk trash pickup in Denton and nearby cities is often included in your trash bill and worth using when your pile fits the rules. The catch is that every city sets its own.

This guide compares Denton, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Frisco, McKinney, and Plano on pickup frequency, scheduling, size and item limits, rejected materials, and fees, with a quick look at Little Elm, The Colony, Highland Village, and Corinth. For many readers, the city program is the right answer, and we say so. We also cover the cases where it is not.

Last verified: October 2026, each city checked against its official page (Flower Mound, Frisco, Plano, and Little Elm on October 26; Denton, Lewisville, and McKinney on October 23; The Colony, Highland Village, and Corinth on October 19). City rules change, so confirm before you set anything out. We re-check this guide every quarter.

One cubic yard is a block 3 feet on each side, about the size of a large washing machine. City dimensions and item rules decide eligibility, not a curbside guess.

Renting? Eligibility usually follows the property and its trash service, not who lives there. If you live in an apartment community or a managed rental, ask your property manager and the city before you set anything out.

Denton Bulky Waste Pickup

Denton picks up bulky items weekly, but you have to ask first. Request pickup at least one business day ahead by calling Solid Waste at 940-349-8700 or using the city’s online self-service form. The rules on the city’s Bulky Waste page:

  • Up to 2 bulky items a week are included at no extra charge
  • Each item over that costs $5
  • Construction and remodeling materials are not eligible, and neither are bagged trash
  • Refrigerant appliances, such as refrigerators and window A/C units, cost extra

Two items a week covers a sofa and a chair. It does not cover a garage, so a bigger cleanout either takes several weeks of requests or a different route. A rejected pile stays at your curb until you deal with it.

If a pickup is missed, check that you met the deadline and set-out time, then report it to the city. For a load the city will not take, landfill drop-off is a DIY route, so confirm hours, fees, and proof-of-residency rules before you load the truck. Bigger jobs are what our Denton junk removal crews handle every day.

Lewisville Bulk Trash Pickup

Lewisville collects bulky items on the same day as your trash and recycling, with no request needed. Set items out by 7 a.m. The limit is 3 cubic yards per collection, and bulky items and yard waste share that limit, so a brush pile and an old recliner count against the same allowance.

Appliances with Freon need a certified technician to remove the refrigerant and attach a “Freon removed” tag before pickup. Source: City of Lewisville Trash Services.

If your home is in a managed community or a rental, the answer can change, so ask the property manager as well as the city. When a pile is too big for curbside service or the items are still inside, see junk removal in Lewisville for a crew that carries everything out.

Flower Mound Bulk and Brush Pickup

Flower Mound collects bulk and brush weekly on your standard collection day, with no appointment needed for standard pickup. The limit is four cubic yards of brush or bulk at the curb per week, and each bulk item must be no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet by 12 feet.

Brush has its own prep rules. Cut it into lengths of four feet or less, then bundle and tie it, with no more than 50 pounds per bundle. Furniture, appliances, water heaters, toilets, and yard waste are accepted.

Appliances with Freon or PCBs need removal by a certified technician, who tags the item, before collection. Hazardous and electronic waste, car parts, tires, and non-compactible items such as bricks and concrete are not collected.

Over the limit? Spread the pile over several weeks, or call Republic Services at 817.317.2000 for a special pickup. The city lists the special pickup rate at $45 per hour with a one-hour minimum, paid directly to Republic. For a bigger cleanout, see junk removal in Flower Mound. Source: Town of Flower Mound.

Frisco Bulk Trash Pickup

Frisco collects bulk trash once a month on your regular recycling and trash day, in the first, second, third, or fourth week of the month depending on where you live. You have to reserve a spot: fill out the city’s online form, because the list closes at noon on the business day before service.

Set items out where your driveway meets the curb by 7 a.m., at least 3 feet from other objects. Crews cannot go onto private property. The monthly service has these limits:

  • Up to five items per monthly pickup (a desk broken into two pieces counts as two)
  • No item longer than six feet in any direction
  • No item heavier than 50 pounds
  • Trash in bags or boxes does not count as a bulk item

Frisco does not accept household hazardous waste, electronics (TVs, refrigerators, freezers), recyclables and cardboard boxes, large metal items, construction or remodeling waste, or enclosed metal containers such as water heaters. Carpet is limited to one 6 by 6 foot section, and fencing to one panel or five loose boards. Appliances and other metal go to a separate metal pickup with a one-time $15 fee. Source: City of Frisco.

Five items is a tight cap for a garage cleanout. If you need more room or the items are still indoors, see junk removal in Frisco.

McKinney Bulky Item Collection

McKinney collects bulky items by appointment, up to 12 times a year at no additional cost. Request each pickup before noon on the business day before your collection day. Items must fit within 3.5 feet by 3 feet by 9 feet, or be two large household pieces.

Renters should read the fine print. McKinney treats residential rentals as commercial property, so landlords and property owners cannot request bulky item collection for a rental. Appliances with Freon need proof that the refrigerant was evacuated. Source: City of McKinney Residential Trash Services.

Those details decide whether a few household items or a full garage can go out. If the pile is bigger than the city allows, McKinney junk removal can load it from inside the home so nothing has to be staged at the curb.

Plano Bulky Waste Collection

Plano collects bulky waste once a month. Each household has an assigned collection day, which you can find on the city’s bulky waste page or by calling 972-769-4150. The city’s pages list no request step for standard bulky collection.

  • Set items out by 7 a.m. on your bulky day, and no earlier than five days before it
  • Keep items within 6 feet of the curb or alley, and at least 2 feet from carts, fences, cars, and gas meters
  • Arrange piles no larger than 6 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet
  • Brush and yard trimmings are excluded from the monthly bulky collection

Furniture, mattresses, stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, and fence sections are accepted. Bricks, rock, concrete, contractor waste, dirt, glass panes and mirrors, hazardous waste, roofing, and vehicle parts and tires are not.

Larger piles need a special paid collection: $10 per cubic yard with a $20 minimum, booked through Customer Service and billed to your utility account. Items with Freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, and window AC units, must go through that paid collection and carry a $25 environmental fee.

For furniture, remodeling leftovers, or a full move-out, Plano junk removal is the full-service alternative to curb staging.

What City Bulk Pickup Won’t Take

Across the programs we verified, the same categories keep coming up. Plan for these to need another route:

  • Household hazardous waste, including paint, chemicals, and fuels
  • Electronics and TVs
  • Tires and car parts
  • Construction, remodeling, brick, and concrete debris
  • Refrigerators, freezers, and other refrigerant appliances, unless they are tagged or booked as a paid pickup

Can Appliances With Refrigerant Go Out?

Usually not as-is. Flower Mound, Lewisville, Little Elm, Highland Village, and Corinth require the refrigerant to be removed and the item tagged first, and McKinney asks for proof of evacuation. Denton charges extra for refrigerant appliances, Plano takes them only as a paid special collection, and Frisco does not take refrigerators or freezers in bulk pickup at all.

What About Bricks, Concrete, and Construction Debris?

Flower Mound, Plano, and Highland Village exclude bricks and concrete, and Denton and Frisco exclude construction and remodeling materials. Treat heavy debris as a landfill or full-service job.

What If I Miss My Pickup Day?

Check that you met the request deadline, set-out time, and size limit. Then contact the city or its hauler. In Frisco, a missed reservation means waiting for your next monthly week. In Flower Mound, you can call Republic Services for a special pickup.

When a Junk Removal Company Makes More Sense

City pickup is usually the cheapest option for a small, accepted pile that can wait for the collection window. If that is your situation, use it. It stops fitting when the pile is large, mixed, heavy, deadline-driven, or still inside the house.

That is where our crew helps. We carry items out from the garage, attic, or backyard, so you do not have to stage anything at the curb, and we give a free on-site estimate and wait for your approval before loading. Our pricing starts at a $115 minimum load, with no card processing fees.

Good reasons to call instead of waiting on the city:

  • The pile is over the city’s item or volume limit
  • Items are upstairs, in the garage, or too heavy to carry to the curb
  • A move-out, estate cleanout, or closing date sets your deadline
  • The load mixes accepted and rejected materials

Schedule a curbside junk pickup estimate, or call 940-758-5300 to talk it through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to schedule bulk trash pickup, or can I leave it at the curb?

It depends on the city. Frisco requires an online reservation that closes at noon the business day before service. Flower Mound and Little Elm collect on a set schedule with no request, and Plano collects on an assigned monthly day. Lewisville collects on your trash day with no request. Denton needs a request at least one business day ahead, and McKinney needs one by noon the business day before. An unrequested pile may be left behind.

Can renters use city bulk pickup?

Often, but it depends on the property and its trash service. In McKinney, residential rentals count as commercial property, and landlords cannot request bulky item collection for them. Apartment communities and managed rentals can have their own rules, so ask the property manager and the city.

Can I put out a refrigerator or window A/C unit?

Not without checking. Several cities require the refrigerant to be removed and the unit tagged first, Denton charges extra, Plano handles Freon items only as a paid collection, and Frisco does not take refrigerators or freezers in bulk pickup.

Will bulk pickup take bricks or remodeling debris?

Not in the cities we verified. Denton and Frisco exclude construction and remodeling materials, and Flower Mound, Plano, and Highland Village exclude bricks and concrete.

What does extra pickup cost?

Denton includes 2 bulky items a week and charges $5 for each extra item. Plano charges $10 per cubic yard with a $20 minimum for a special paid collection, plus a $25 fee for Freon items. Flower Mound lists a Republic special pickup at $45 per hour with a one-hour minimum. Frisco’s metal pickup is a one-time $15 fee.

When is a junk removal company better than city pickup?

When the load is large, mixed, heavy, indoors, or on a deadline. For a small accepted pile with no rush, the city program is the better value.
